At the Saleem & Munira Merchant Charitable Foundation, we strongly believe that every young person deserves an equal opportunity to build a secure and meaningful future. This belief led us to support one of our most meaningful initiatives—the Boys Hostel Project in collaboration with Navjeevan Centre, a Mumbai-based NGO that has been transforming the lives of children and mothers since 1994 through rehabilitation, education, emotional support, and pathways to independence.

While younger children at Navjeevan receive structured care and educational support, a critical gap emerged for boys once they completed their schooling. Beyond a certain age, support systems become limited, and many deserving young boys are left without the stability, resources, or guidance needed to pursue higher education and shape their future. When this challenge was brought to us, we felt compelled to step in.

What began with 8 boys in the first year has today grown into a promising and impactful initiative supporting 20 young boys, with 13 boys supported in the second year. Through this project, we provide not just boarding and lodging, but also educational support, mentoring, and the additional academic assistance they need to confidently pursue their studies and careers.

This initiative is especially close to our hearts because we believe that at such a vulnerable age, access to education and stability can change the trajectory of a life. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we hope to empower these young individuals to move forward with dignity, confidence, and the opportunity to build brighter futures for themselves.
